domed top keepsake box of spalted maple
veneer over ash with ebony trim and accents.
The
box top is hinged with my custom designed,
hand-made bras hinges.
This box incorporates
a particularly beautiful piece of spalted maple that
was painstakingly cut to yield the most pleasing
patterns.
Note that the backside
looks like an old chart of Florida and Gulf of Mexico.
The finish on this box
is satin acrylic; bottom lining is red velvet.
* Spalted maple is maple
that has been invaded by fungi and, as such is very
weak. Therefore, this box is veneered over ash and
unspalted maple.
