This series of boxes was a challenge
because I wanted to make a large box that is thin-sided
and lightweight.
The sides are only 1/4" thick
as it is the top which is set in a 1/2" frame.
Like most of my boxes the top
is flush fitting to give it a smooth, clean look.
Ash ages to a yellowish color,
so I bleached it which makes it look rather limed
oak.
The clear satin acrylic finish
does not yellow, so that it will maintain the whiteness
over time.
The underside of the top and
the bottom are dyed black to provide good contrast.
These beautiful handcrafted
wood boxes can be used as keepsake boxes, jewelry boxes, valet boxes
or all purpose boxes.
