This is largest box among currently available keepsake or document boxes.
Occasionally I run across an extraordinary piece of wood.
Such is the case with this spectacularly figured maple burl in the box body and the redwood burl top inlay which I saved out to make something really special like this bevel-top box.
The top is a mosaic of redwood burl and African blackwood outlined with double banded stringing of satinwood and ebony.
These are all 1/8” thick shop-sawn veneers vacuum laminated to mahogany.
The sides are edge banded with cocobolo. The bottom of box and underside of the top are painted black and finished with acrylic.
The bottom is leather lined and the top is stayed with gold plated chain.
Finished with classic tung oil based varnish and machine polished to a high luster.

used as valet boxes, keepsake boxes, or all purpose boxes.
