Some pieces
of wood are so great that I save them for a special
work. Such is
this beautifully figured Honduras rosewood (Dalbergia
stenensonii) which is rare, as is the color, a rich
brown with a touch of blue.
The piece
I had is lare enough for two boxes and this is the
first. It is thickly
veneered and laminated to a base of cherry.
The top is a bleached maple burl
that is only lightly finished so that the texture of
the burl stands out as a marbled effect.
The box is lined with suede leather
and finished with a gloss urethane to the point where
most of the grain is filled, but not all.
.
These boxes can be
used as valet boxes, keepsake boxes, or all purpose boxes.
They will make unique gifts
for all occasions, fine home decor or office/desktop accessories.
