Description:

This box is somewhat different from our usual offerings of fine unblemished highly polished lacquer boxes.

This box had been dropped and mainly the top damaged and a new top made and the box body refinished.

The veneer for this box is a rare highly figured maple burl that is probably stump wood.

As you cnn see, the box is essentially rustic looking. Thus, when I rebuilt the top (the entire centerpiece is new), I left some of the floaws so that it is more rustic and antique looking.

The top frame, particularly on the under side is somewhat rough-looking and there are some visible seams on the outside top bands of African blackwood and Ceylon satinwood.

The maple box body 1/8" veneer is shop sawn and vacuum laminated onto a base wood.

The top - The spalted maple cente piece is framed with Ceylon satinwood, African blackwood and ebony stringing.

The box is finished in polished acrylic lacquer.
